Celebrating the coronation across the district 

As we approach the coronation weekend, here are just some of the events, offers and celebrations going on around the district. 

From cabaret and live music to garden parties and family craft events, there is no shortage of exciting activities to help you make the most of the long bank holiday weekend. 

Friday 28th April

Coronations through the collections from The National Archives - this online event, is a great way to get to know what the coronation day involves, from the rituals and music to the pageants and parties. Times: 14:00 - 15:00

Thursday 4th May 

Head just south of Clerkenwell Road to discover Royal Stories, Royal Treasures at the Museum of the Order of St John, a tour which takes you from Henry II to Charles III. Discover more than eight centuries of royal patronage and hospitality through rarely seen objects in the Museum’s collection. Times: 13:00 - 14:30

Coronation Special: Pub Quiz at the Museum of the Order of St John is a chance to test your knowledge. Book a table and go head-to-head with your coworkers, friends or family in this coronation-themed pub quiz! Times: 19:00 - 21:00

Friday 5th – Monday 8th May 

The Celebratory menu at The Three Kings in Clerkenwell Close (right beside St James’s Church Garden) is sure to catch your eye and set you up for a weekend of celebration. The district’s pubs are open across the bank holiday promising great food, drinks and entertainment. Various times

Head to Bloomsbury Square Garden for the Coronation Show at The London Cabaret Club brings together a huge variety of talent and the best entertainment to mark the occasion. Why not make an evening of it and book a table at one of Holborn’s great pubs for dinner beforehand? Various times

Serving drinks and food throughout St Giles Square across the weekend, Arcade's Summer Terrace will be showing the coronation live across TV screens in the food hall, and holding family activities on Bank Holiday Monday including crown-making, face-painting, and steel drums.

The only thing more quintessentially British than the coronation is enjoying a sumptuous afternoon tea. Visit Rosewood London (just east of Holborn station) for an elegant Coronation Art Afternoon Tea in the refined surroundings of the Mirror Room. 

Saturday 6th - Sunday 7th May

Afternoon Tea and Al Fresco Street Party at The Montague On the Gardens is just south of Russell Square, and offers a traditional welcome for the new King, with Afternoon tea featuring specially-themed cocktails, and an immersive al fresco street party with live music and entertainment! Times: 13:00 - 17:00

Sunday 7th May

Head just north of Farringdon station and celebrate Bank Holiday Sunday at The Piano Works, Farringdon - open throughout the bank holiday sunday with late entry and class acts. Various times

If you find yourself in Bloomsbury, come along to ‘Celebrating the Coronation’ at the British Museum, with inspiring music from around the world with the Commonwealth Children’s Choir. Discover rulers of the past and the symbols of royalty at this FREE event. Times: 11:00 - 16:00

Monday 8th May

This Volunteer information event with Childline London - part of the Big Help Out, is your opportunity to find out more about volunteering with Childline London and give something back by providing much-needed support. Times: 11:00 - 12:00

FREE Bank Holiday Family fun at the Museum of the Order of St John, including crown making with materials from the museum gardens. Times: 11:00 - 15:30

Celebrate the coronation across the district

CDA is delighted to unveil its new distinctive flags across the district in recognition of the coronation. 

Featuring the iconic Coronation Emblem, which pays tribute to The King’s love of the natural world, the banners celebrate the district’s green spaces with a splash of colour, and they’re a great backdrop for photos, selfies and festive events. 

The flags, which also display the side profile of The King as it will appear on newly-minted coins, are displayed in Russell Square, Bloomsbury Square Gardens, and Red Lion Square. Residents and visitors are encouraged to share selfies and pictures in the lead-up to the weekend to celebrate.
