Getting to know … Sekou Diakite, CDA’s Janitorial Operative

Our Cleaning Team work around the clock to ensure that our district is clean, vibrant and welcoming for all who live, work and visit the area. We sat down with Sekou Diakite to talk about his role at CDA. Read on for his tips on keeping our area clean and tidy!

Q: How long have you been working with CDA?
A: I’ve been with CDA around 5 years now, so quite a long time.

Q: What motivated you to join the team?
A: I had been looking for a cleaning job for quite some time as I wanted a job that involved being physically active. I was really excited to join the team when I got the offer as it meant being out and getting exercise from walking and cleaning.

Q: Do you face any challenges within your role?
A: There aren’t so many challenges where I’m positioned now, however the streets can be really busy at times with lots of people, which makes it difficult to clean.

Q: What would you say is your favourite part of your role?
A: I just love walking around; it’s great exercise for me at my age.

Q: Do you have any advice you would like to give to businesses or individuals in the local area?
A: Yes, it’s hard to keep things clean, especially when we’re not all working together to ensure street cleanliness. It would be great if we could all be mindful of our impact, the more time we all take to throw out rubbish correctly, the cleaner our streets will be.

Q: What’s your favourite place in the district?
A: I mainly work near Faringdon station, and I do enjoy it there. Although there are a lot of people and cleaning can be hard, people are often really nice and friendly.

Thank you, Sekou, for your dedication to the cleanliness of our district – we’re very grateful that you’re part of the team! For more information on our cleaning team and their vital role, please visit CDA’s Environmental Services project page.
