AI Awareness Day at Winton School - Central District Alliance

AI Awareness Day at Winton School

As part of our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) programme and to mark AI Awareness Day, our Placemaking Project Manager, Carol Boye, visited Year 4 pupils at Winton Primary School to deliver an engaging and interactive session exploring the world of artificial intelligence.

During the visit, Carol introduced pupils to the fundamentals of AI, explaining what it is, how it is used in everyday life and importantly, how to use the technology safely and responsibly. She also shared insights into her role in placemaking and demonstrated how AI can support creative thinking and problem-solving in the workplace.

Following the presentation, pupils were challenged to put their newfound knowledge into practice by working together to design their own parks. The activity encouraged creativity, collaboration and teamwork, with students enthusiastically sharing ideas and imagining how public spaces could be designed to benefit their communities.

It was great to witness the imagination and curiosity shown by the children throughout the session. Their thoughtful questions and innovative designs highlighted the exciting potential of the next generation as they begin to explore emerging technologies.

The visit continued with Carol delivering a whole-school assembly, introducing pupils across all year groups to the concept of artificial intelligence and discussing both its opportunities and the importance of using it responsibly.

Commenting on the visit, Winton Primary School’s Deputy Head Teacher said:

“We were delighted to welcome Carol and Erin into school. The children were inspired to hear about their careers and experiences, and it was so valuable for them to see two successful women they could relate to and learn from. The session on AI was engaging and thought-provoking, helping pupils understand both the opportunities it offers and the importance of using it safely and responsibly.”

The session formed part of our ongoing ESG commitment to support education, encourage digital awareness and inspire young people to explore future careers with confidence.

We would like to thank everyone at Winton Primary School for their warm welcome and for providing such an enthusiastic audience. It was a pleasure to support the next generation in exploring technology safely, responsibly and with creativity at its heart.
