Mayor of Islington Visits Local Primary Schools

As part of a shared commitment to community engagement and early‑years education, the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Jackson along with Debbie Akehurst and Wayne Lewis from CDA, visited Hugh Myddelton Primary School and Winton Primary School on Monday, 27th April 2026.

The visits were facilitated by the CDA team whose ESG programme focuses on strengthening links between schools, communities and local businesses. Both schools play a vital role within Islington, supporting children’s learning and helping young people develop a sense of belonging, confidence and civic pride.

At each school, the mayor was welcomed by the Head Teacher and senior staff before addressing pupils during assembly. His age‑appropriate talks focused on community cohesion, local democracy and his role as Mayor, helping children understand how their voices matter within their local community.

The visits highlighted the importance of collaboration between education, local government and community partners, supporting positive learning experiences and reinforcing the value of active citizenship from an early age.
